Back to School - Cloud Cumputing Good or Bad?

Well it has been awhile sense I have made a post. The holidays are just about over and it will be time to return to school soon. I will be taking customer service and Security +. We will have a new instructor for Security + and I am excited to see what he brings to the table. I have been noticing a lot of talk about cloud computing on the Internet lately. This also brings up a lot of talk about security. I am hoping to get a better grasp on the ins and outs of this new concept. As of now I have no opinion on cloud computing. I would like to hear what others have to say.

SERVER 2003

I completed a very big task for myself. I deployed my very first server today. Using Windows Server 2003 I created the DHCP, DNS, and AD. I was also able to gain Internet access, for my domain server and workstations, on a separate domain from the one I created. I know this may not seem like a very big triumph, but I done this on my own with no assistance from my instructor. I now feel adequate to walk into the job market and be successful. Now the hard part comes, finding someone that will hire me.

Wow the School is Stepping Up

We just got our A+ computer's. Now we can put what we've been learning to the test. The school is now stepping up. I can honestly say that this program has the potential to become one of the best in the country. If we can keep this director and for that matter our IT administrator this program will keep moving in the right direction.

Mid-Terms

I have just finished my mid-term for my A+ class and as I thought there was no problems. I must say that today has been a very good day as far as school is concerned. I was just informed that they will be paying for one of our certifications. Today was the first time that I have been given a definite answer to that question. I was told that they will be ordering vouchers in December. This is a big help. So now it looks like I will be sitting for my A+ cert some time in late December or early January. If anyone has any suggestions for me I am all ears.

Things Are Looking Up

Well things have been going good with school. We have our mid-terms next week and I don't see having any problems with them. I actually don't see any one in our class having any problems. On another note I have been working with the career services at our school and I think I have a good possibility of landing a job with Pomeroy IT Solutions. I am very excited about this possibility. This could be the door that I have been waiting a long time for. I may be able to finally put my mistakes from the past behind me and move on to my future.

GOOD NEWS

Well finally some good news. We will be back in our computer lab starting Monday. This is great that its finally happening but I still don't understand why it took this long. I'm guessing a little bit of laziness on the administrations part, but oh well. There other good thing is I was told that some of our certification test are going to be paid for. I am not sure which ones but I was told that they would find out for me and let me know. You know I don't mean to seem like I am always complaining but I am paying a lot of money to attend this college and I expect the most for my money, plus I was always told the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I would hope that anybody paying for a service would want the most for their money. Tell me how you feel.

Well the second week of class started yesterday and I can say it was a good class. We are still not in our computer lab but I was told not to worry it would be happening very soon. This not the answer I was looking for but I am not going to let administrative stuff ruin my learning experience. I figure I am better off making the best of a bad situation instead of dwelling on it. So now I can only hope for the best and deal with what I got until it gets better. I hope to be talking about some good technical stuff soon, until next time.

I JUST DON'T GET IT

I am at the end of the first week of this quarter and I have yet to get my hands wet, so to speak. I feel like the program I am in, Network Communications Information Systems,(NCIS) is really being over looked. This is a new program to this school and when it started it was going great. The school bought brand new computers and a server just for this program. I was really impressed with the resources we were given. The book material and everything. Now as I sit here waiting for class to start tonight I am having a hard time getting excited. I am in a room next door to our computer lab and in that lab is an instructor teaching GED courses. Now tell me that makes sense. Our school acquired thousands of dollars worth of equipment for the NCIS program and now we can't even utilize it because of this GED class. I have spoken to the powers to be and they tell me we will be back in that class in a week or two and I guess that was suppose to make me happy. My response to them was, it just doesn't make sense. To that they said its sounds like you are just not happy here maybe this is not the place for you. So I guess their solution to a problem is not to fix it but ask the person that brought the problem to their attention to leave. I will be honest if it wasn't for the money that I have already invested and the fact that I do like my instructors I would have been gone a long time ago. Tell me what you think.

Back To Class

I started back to class last night. I am very excited to get back at it. My first two nights of class I will be diving into the Comptia A+ course. As always its a slow start but I am sure this will be a very good class for me. I feel confident that this class will help me in my search for employment in the IT field. I must admit that this school is a little discouraging at times. I just feel that there is some mismanagement of resources and that they could have better organizational skills. With that in mind I understand that no program is perfect but you like to hope for perfection when you are spending a great deal of money. Let me know if you have had experiences such as mine.

Course Study

Finally I am done with this quarter and a long awaited week off follows. Following my week off I will get back to my Technical classes. I will be taking the Comptia A+ course and the Comptia Server + course this coming quarter. This will be a great change of pace from my general classes that I took this quarter. I know they are needed to get my degree but they can make for some boring class time. Well I will be keeping my posts up to date with what is going on in my classes and I am sure I will be asking questions for people to answer. With that said if anybody has a question for me please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer it for you or find the answer for you.
